Partners for Care is excited to announce a brand new partnership with Mount Kenya University (MKU), a chartered university in Kenya committed to a broad-based, holistic and inclusive system of education. In addition to a virtual campus, MKU has established 15 physical campus locations including Rwanda, Mombasa, Kigali, and Somaliland. MKU’s main campus is located in Thika town on the outskirts of Kenya’s capital Nairobi. Mount Kenya University is ISO 9001:2008 Certified and also a member of Inter-University Council for East Africa and Association of Common Wealth Universities.
The new partnership, outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), is “for the purpose of fostering and facilitating programs in community outreach, joint research, entrepreneurship, innovation, online education, and student immersions while supporting the development of collaboration across both organizations.” Leaders from both Partners for Care and Mount Kenya University met in early March for the official signing of the MOU.
Partners for Care and Mount Kenya University will work together to explore and further develop the following programs:
Establishment of anti-jigger campaign strategies and activities
Advancement of an mHealth facility in Kenya through research and information communication technology (ICT) support
Strategies for PackH20 water pack research, entrepreneurship, and innovation
Collaboration in identifying potential partners for donations of medical equipment and supplies for needy hospitals in Kenya and measurement of their impact on healthcare delivery
The Partners for Care staff in Kenya are excited about the potential gains in overall community health that this partnership represents. As a widely respected institution of higher education in Kenya, MKU brings a wealth of innovative new ideas and available resources for furthering the impact of these programs on the ground.
